Free CMS migration readiness assessment

Planning a move to a new CMS or DXP? We look at your current site and show you what the move involves: which pages and URLs to move, a 301 redirect for every URL, the integrations to rebuild, a phased cutover with a rollback plan, the risks to traffic and uptime, and 2 to 3 platforms that fit.

Questions to answer before you migrate

Which pages are worth moving?

Every page needs a decision: migrate as-is, migrate with updates, or retire. That decision sets the timeline and the budget.

Will we keep our search rankings?

If URLs change without proper redirects, rankings, traffic and revenue drop. Every old URL needs a matching new URL and a 301 redirect.

What has to work on day one?

Your CRM, marketing automation, analytics, search and custom apps all connect to the CMS. Some must work at launch, others can follow.

What if launch goes wrong?

A phased cutover with validated redirects, a rollback plan and the old site kept as a fallback limits the damage.

What the assessment covers

Each item follows the seven-step method in our CMS migration guide.
  • Content and URL inventory

We review your pages, media, documents and URLs, and show how to sort content into migrate as-is, migrate with updates or retire. Under 500 pages, moving content by hand often works better than scripts.

  • 301 redirect mapping

We plan a full redirect map: every old URL gets a matching new URL and a 301 redirect, with extra care for pages that earn backlinks. Meta titles, descriptions and internal links come across too.

  • Integrations

We map how your CMS connects to your CRM, marketing automation, analytics, commerce, search and custom apps, and rank each one: critical on day one, important within 30 days, optional for a later phase.

  • Phased cutover and rollback

We plan the move in stages: a pilot batch of 50 to 100 pages first, then the full set. We plan for a zero-downtime cutover with validated SEO redirects and rollback procedures in place.

  • Risk and downtime

We flag what could break: rich content that scripts handle poorly, URL changes, integrations and performance. You also get the checks for the first 30 days after launch and a plan to keep the old site accessible, but not indexed, for at least 90 days as a fallback.

  • Platform shortlist

If a move makes sense, we shortlist 2 to 3 platforms that fit your needs and explain how to test each one with your real content. If your current CMS is still viable, we say so.

Frequently asked questions

What does the CMS migration readiness assessment cover?
Six areas: your content and URL inventory, 301 redirect mapping, integrations, a phased cutover with rollback, risk and downtime, and a shortlist of 2 to 3 platforms.
How do you plan a phased CMS migration?
Rank every integration as critical, important or optional: critical ones must work on day one, important ones can follow within 30 days, and optional ones can wait for a later phase. Move content in stages, starting with a pilot batch of 50 to 100 pages, and fix script issues before you migrate the full set.
How do you avoid downtime and lost rankings during a migration?
Plan a full redirect map with a 301 redirect for every URL, and cut over with validated SEO redirects, DNS propagation monitoring and rollback procedures in place. After launch, watch indexation, 404 errors and traffic for the first 30 days, and keep the old site accessible but not indexed for at least 90 days as a fallback.
Do we need to migrate at all?
Not always. Sometimes the problem is the implementation, not the platform. If a re-implementation or an upgrade on your current platform would solve it at a fraction of the cost, we tell you.
Will you recommend a platform?
We shortlist 2 to 3 platforms that fit and show how to test them with your real content. As a partner of many leading platforms, we resell only the one that fits your needs, budget and team, and we recommend keeping your current CMS when it is still viable.
How long does the assessment take?
The discovery call takes 30 minutes. Most reports are ready within 5 business days of the call; large multi-site platforms take longer.
Is it really free?
Yes. The assessment is free and comes with no obligation.
